Cranberry

Cranberries are not commercially grown on a large scale in Nepal due to the specific bog and highly acidic soil conditions they require. Consequently, most cranberry products in the Nepalese market are imported.

Cranberries are nutrient-dense powerhouses packed with vitamins, fiber, and bioactive plant compounds. Renowned for preventing urinary tract infections, boosting heart health, and lowering systemic inflammation.

The key benefits of Cranberries include:

  • Urinary Tract Health: The PACs in cranberries prevent bacteria like E. coli from adhering to the urinary tract. While they don’t cure active UTIs, they are highly effective at preventing recurring infections,
  • Heart Health: Cranberries contain polyphenols and fiber that help lower blood pressure and arterial stiffness, reduce LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and increase HDL (“good”) cholesterol,
  • Digestive Wellness: The antioxidants in cranberries can inhibit H. pylori (a bacteria that causes stomach ulcers and gastric inflammation), while dietary fiber helps feed healthy gut bacteria and promotes regular digestion,
  • Blood Sugar Management: Whole, unsweetened cranberries are low in sugar and high in fiber. This combination slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood glucose spikes,
  • Immunity & Skin: Cranberries are rich in Vitamin C, which is essential for immune defense, collagen production, and skin repair,
  • Oral Health: Cranberry compounds can reduce mouth acidity and prevent bacteria from clinging to teeth, potentially reducing cavities and gum disease.
