Strawberry

Nepal is a significant producer of strawberries, particularly in the hilly region of Kakani, Nuwakot, but the strawberry farming has expanded across several districts like Jhapa, Dang, Rolpa, Dhading and Kavre.

The fruit is a major cash crop, with peak harvest occurring between December and March.

Strawberries are nutritional powerhouses that offers a range of health benefits:

  • Support heart health: Strawberries contain anthocyanins which can help improve vascular function, lower blood pressure, and reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol,
  • Support blood sugar regulation: They have a low glycemic index. Their fiber and polyphenols help slow the digestion of sugars, preventing rapid spikes after meals,
  • Support immune & skin: Their high vitamin C content is vital for immune defense and collagen production, which maintains skin elasticity and helps prevent wrinkles,
  • Support brain function: Antioxidants in strawberries protect brain cells from inflammation and improve communication between neurons,
  • Support digestive health,
  • Support prenatal health: They are a good source of folate (Vitamin B9), which is essential for healthy tissue growth and preventing birth defects during pregnancy.
