Directions

Peel the oranges and cut them into thin slices (about 5 mm).

In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer the syrup until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Add the oranges slices. Simmer, covered, for about 1 hour. Check regularly and add water if necessary.

Turn off the heat and remove the orange slices from the syrup.

Drain them.

Place the oranges on a baking sheet.

Cover your oranges with an insect net to prevent insects from getting in.

Place the oranges in a sunny, well-ventilated spot for a few days, depending on the humidity and amount of sunlight. Raise the trays about a meter off the ground to promote air circulation and faster drying. Do not leave them outside overnight, as the evening chill could cause them to absorb more moisture.

Ready when they are dry.

Place them in an airtight container and put them in the refrigerator.

You can use dried oranges during your hikes, in energy bars or in muesli.
