Directions

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Gradually add water, just enough to form a soft dough. Knead briefly.

Cover and let stand for 30 minutes.

Divide the dough into equal portions.

Roll out each piece of dough into a thin, oblong disc. Using a knife, cut two parallel lines into the dough.

Heat the oil in a pan.

Fry the dough one by one in hot oil over medium-low heat.

Remove them from the oil once they are golden brown and puffed up. Place them on paper towels to absorb the oil.
